Holistic healthcare addresses the whole person i.e. Mind, Body and Soul in the healing process

Holistic health is a wellness approach that addresses the body, mind and soul considering the physical, emotional/mental and spiritual aspects of an individual. It is sometimes referred to as complimentary health, alternative health or natural health.
Conventional medicine treats the symptoms of the disease whereas holistic medicine works at eliminating root cause thus preventing recurrence. A holistic health approach doesn't view the body, mind and soul as separate entities and promotes drugs and surgery only when absolutely essential and after other solutions have been sought. It looks for the underlying causes of symptoms, rather than just treating the symptoms with drugs.
Holistic healthcare includes natural, alternative, integrative and complementary medicine. When alternative medicine is used with conventional medicine in a fully coordinated approach to patient care, this is referred to as integrative medicine or holistic medicine.
Faced with toxicity of drugs, increased costs of healthcare, ineffectivity of conventional medicine in chronic diseases, public patronage for time tested traditional systems of medicine, considerable importance is being given for integrative medicine in developed countries as future of global healthcare. Traditional systems of medicine being practiced from ancient times are being evaluated further for developing global medicine with emphasis on prevention, nutrition, nature and lifestyle to control non communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease etc. Bharat with its Vedic wisdom on health and sickness, is still preserving and practicing ancient health systems such as Yoga, Ayurveda, Siddha etc and is in better position to contribute to advancement of Integrative Medicine. With this objective in mind, we developed Arogya Web portal on Holistic Healthcare and Research in Bharat, in particular on lifestyle diseases. We deeply appreciate the three Institutions (SVYASA, IRIIM and IPGT & RA) which promptly sent information for inclusion in the Web portal.

We hope and wish to receive cooperation from all other holistic healthcare institutions in Bharat for sharing their wisdom and experience by active interaction and inputs to this web portal. We appreciate your comments and suggestions.
